Staff Biographies
Dan Morlan, Physical Therapist
Dan Morlan is a co-owner of Active Edge Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine with his wife Melissa. He graduated from Colorado College with majors in Biology, Psychology and Neuroscience and a minor in German. After graduating from CC, Dan went on to play soccer professionally in Florida, France and Germany. Upon returning to America, Dan worked at Clubsport Oregon as a personal trainer. In 2000, Dan started physical therapy school at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. Dan was very successful in physical therapy school, winning several awards, at the school, state and national levels for excellence in physical therapy. After graduation, Dan began his physical therapy career working at Walton Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine with a focus on rehabilitation of injured athletes. In January 2009, Dan created Active Edge Physical Therapy in the interest of treating patients with orthopedic injuries guided by his own vision. Dan is passionate about treating athletic injuries and enabling active adults to maintain and improve their active lifestyle. His specialties include soccer, running, golf, baseball, basketball and tennis with special training in addressing biomechanical problems and neurological components of sports injuries.
Melissa Morlan, Physical Therapist

Melissa Morlan is co-owner of Active Edge Physical Therapy & Sports Medicine with her husband Dan. She graduated from Indiana University in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and minor in Psychology. While at Indiana University, Melissa was a member of the university's crew team and began to pursue running competitively on her own. In 2001, she began physical therapy school at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. After graduating with her Master's degree in 2002, Melissa decided to continue her training another year, receiving her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Melissa enjoys treating active adults, particularly runners, and specializes in treating orthopedic injuries. She is particularly gifted in treating pelvic/sacroiliac joint and hip disorders, as well as treating patients who are pregnant or post-partum. Melissa is currently taking courses to become certified in Pilates for rehabilitation, and will be offering one-on-one sessions, as well a group classes for clients when her training is complete. We will keep you updated as this progresses.
Chris Woods, Physical Therapist
Chris Woods is originally from northern California. He completed his undergraduate work at UC Santa Cruz, and his Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University. After a few years of consulting in the environmental field, he went back to school to study physical therapy at Duke University. Since 1999, he has been practicing in orthopedic clinics in northern California. He moved to Portland in 2010, when his wife took a teaching position at PCC. Chris specializes in biomechanics (especially of the complex interactions of the pelvis, hip, knee, and foot), and loves working with athletes of all ages, showing them how to take care of the most valuable sports equipment they own -- their bodies. He has traveled throughout the developing world, and appreciates cultural diversity. In his spare time, he enjoys playing music with his wife, making furniture, hiking/camping/kayaking. Chris also enjoys running, and reading about history, science, and archaeology.
Micah Frey, Physical Therapist

Micah Frey was born and raised in rural Ohio before moving to the Pacific Northwest to attend Oregon State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise & Sport Science. He recently graduated from the University of Findlay (Findlay, Ohio), receiving his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) where he was honored with the program’s most prestigious award recognizing his high academic achievement, clinical performance, and leadership in service to the program and community. Micah was also active at the state level as he was elected as a state officer with the Ohio Physical Therapy Association. During his educational experience, he was adamant to push himself to encounter the widest spectrum of patients and latest technology within orthopedic and sports rehabilitation field while completing his clinical affiliations at the Cleveland Clinic, and Ohio State University Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Clinic. Micah is excited to combine his educational knowledge with his personal experiences as an athlete (collegiate baseball, competitive basketball, golf, and running) to provide the highest quality of care to his patients. He specializes in baseball performance and injury prevention, injuries of the shoulder, hip, and spine, and sport-specific functional rehabilitation.

Kat Degroat, Personal Trainer/Physical Therapist Aide
Kat DeGroat is a Certified Personal Trainer at Active Edge Physical Therapy. Kat earned her certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She has a passion for leading a healthy lifestyle and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others by teaching her clients how to make life changes and exercise habits for healthy living. Kat creates an exercise program for each client that will work into their lives as well as get the results they are looking for. She believes it is very important to teach the skills of exercise so that her clients may continue to be sucessful in their healthy lifestyle for years to come. Kat is also a Physical Therapist Assistant at Active Edge. She feels the physical therapy environment has given her valuable knowledge to train her clients how to protect their body as well as work with any limitations there may be. Kat has two school age boys that she loves to spend time with. Her boys enjoy keeping her busy in the outdoors with hiking, fishing, biking and more!
